Stinky Saturday

Derek announced this morning that it was going to be a stinky Saturday. That pretty much means a day full of relaxing, playing video games, wrestling with the kiddos, scrapbooking, baking, building a tent in the living room, playing outside, and most importantly not having to go anywhere. It’s the kind of day where you get to the end and realize that you never took the time to shower, because you just didn’t have a good reason to. Back in the early days of my blog, I posted about mine and Derek’s differing views about the perfect Saturday. . In the past two years, I have really come to appreciate Derek’s perfect Saturday, aka lazy days, aka stinky Saturdays.

The morning started with a little time in the backyard. It was a beautiful morning! Sweet Logan found a bunch of “flowers” in the yard and gave them to me. It was the first time he has ever done that, and I loved it! It’s just such a classic mom/kid moment…the little boy with messy hair and mismatched clothes (that he picked out himself) picking a bunch of weeds of mom.

We had a little car cleaning party, which I really enjoy. It’s so satisfying to climb into a sparkly, clean car. I wanted to get the van all cleaned out, because in just about a week we are going to be loading up the party van and driving to Florida! So fun. Okay, the driving part may not be that fun…but the rest of the trip should be.

I also made cupcakes today, which makes me so happy.

And Derek and I have decided to take the boys camping in a few weeks. I am super excited about that! I am sure that it will be stressful at times…but we are just going to go for one night, and it’s only about 45 minutes away. So if it’s really bad we could just come home. I think the boys will love it so much! We haven’t been camping since Connor was about 9 months old, so it’s definitely about time.

Okay, off to scrap, because scrapping is definitely part of a fun, stinky Saturday!
And then I will shower. Because no one likes to be stinky for real.

I know it’s only March 7th

But in H town, it’s never to early to bust out the pool! It’s not like I woke up this morning and thought “hmm, this is a good day for swimming.” And the kids weren’t bugging to get out the pool, either. It was simply a convenient way to clean up after finger painting. The kids had a total blast with our first swim of the season. It was fun until the picnic lunch when they both started to turn a little bit purple. It was, after all, only about 70 degrees outside.

(Almost) finished!

I finally put the finishing touches on the bedroom today! I love it so much. I still need to get curtains (sheer ones…looking at Target since I have a gift card, or possibly Ikea), and sometime down the road I want to get table lamps. And, I would love to find new hardware for the dresser, but I am running into a little trouble finding something that fits in the existing holes. Small details, but it would still be great to find something black to tie in the black accents. Anyway, here are the before and afters.

I also rearranged Logan’s room today, cleaned both bathrooms, dusted, and rearranged the decorations on our entertainment center. What can I say…Connor was at school all morning, Logan took a great nap, and I was actually productive with my free time!

I think this months project will be Connor’s room. I am going to do something cool a la Shauna on one of Connor’s walls. After I tear down the border he ruined and paint the walls all the way Asparagus instead of just halfway up…the thought of removing more wallpaper makes me throw up a little in my mouth, but I am hoping it will be easy…at least Connor gave me a head start on the project by ripping down a whole wall already…
