cutest cub scout ever (in my opinion, of course.)

I can’t believe that I have become such a blog slacker since they boys have started school!  I mean, really.  I love blogging, I love looking back at all the fun memories I’ve recorded.  So there is no reason for me to fall off the face of the blogging earth like this.

I feel like every blog is the same:  we are busy.  We are just entering into that busy time, where people have to be multiple places at the same time, there are appointments and commitments to keep, friends, sports, school, yada yada yada.

Don’t take this as complaining, because really I am not.  I love this season of life!  And I know that our busy-ness is no different than most other families.  I actually have pretty strong convictions about not over scheduling the kids.  They need time to play and just be kids and don’t need to be shuffled to a different sport or activity every afternoon.  We sort of bent this rule for Connor and signed him up for an extra soccer program (that takes up our Monday evenings and 3 Sunday afternoons over the next few months.)  Then there are his regular soccer practices on Tuesday and Thursday.  Logan practices on Thursday also, but not at the same time.  Tuesday night, I go play volleyball.  Thursday night, Derek plays soccer. We have 2 soccer games every weekend, church, and somewhere in there we try to squeeze in some relaxing/family time.   We also let Connor join Cub Scouts this year.  Those meetings are just twice a month, but of course there is the camping, pinewood derby, etc.  But he loves it, and looks so cute in his uniform and I’m excited for him because it’s just right up his ally.

It’s busy.  But like I said, I love it!  I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

On Thursday night, I had to make a trip to Wal Mart at 8:30 p.m.  Not my favorite time to run errands, for sure.  Usually by then, the kids are (mostly) settled, I have cozied up in my pjs and the day is, for all intents and purposes, over.  But it was a necessary errand.  Logan had started running a fever, so I knew he would be staying home from school the next day.  And then I was leaving bright and early Saturday morning to go to Oklahoma to visit Suzanne and her crew.  I had to get to the store and get Derek food for the weekend, among other things.  So there I was, driving to Wal-Mart when I really just wanted to be relaxing on the couch.  My attitude was not very good.  In fact, I was downright cranky (just ask Derek….I did not hide my crankiness!)  But as I was driving I realized that I have two choices:  I can be cranky about this not-so-fun errand and the kink in my Friday plans.  Or I can be thankful that I have a family to care for, the means for our kids to do special activities, and a husband who will, without any complaining, take care of the kids on his own all weekend so I can go visit a friend.

Wow.

I am one lucky girl.

So amidst this busy season of our lives, I will give thanks to God for the blessings, the joy, the frustrations, the happiness, the hard days, and the easy days.

  1. I love, love, love the Cub Scouts. It is a great program and I am sure he will love it. I always think to myself how similar Cameron and Connor are and Cameron has had the most fun in Cub Scouts. He will be crossing over to Boy Scouts this year – I just can’t believe!
