Bookworm

I am proud to say that I have a little bookworm.

Connor loves to read, just like me.  I may not read as much now (or, if I do read, it’s blogs, facebook, and message boards…)  But that love of reading is definitely still there.  When I was a kid, I always had a book in my hand, most likely a Baby-Sitters Club book.  Oh, how I loved the BSC.

Connor’s reading obsessions have ranged from Junie B. Jones to the Magic Treehouse to the Wimpy Kid series and many, many more that I’ve lost track of.  Connor seems to really like series, so I suggested he try out Harry Potter.  Then, I had the great idea to read them right along with him.  I’ve never read them before, and it seems like a fun thing C and I can do together.  He is working his way through book 2, while I am about halfway through book 1.

It’s become our new “thing.”  Most nights, between 8:00-8:30, this is where you will find Connor and I.

We snuggle up on his bed with our noses in books.  It’s become one of my favorite little moments of the day.

I hope all my kids love to read.  It makes my heart so happy.

  1. You know why kids like series? Because they last longer! I just worked my way through The Hunger Games (not appropriate until about 6th grade). They were so good, and my 7th graders love them! I think that this is a great idea.

  2. You need to catch up and read ahead to monitor what he reads. They get a little darker and scarier as the series progresses. At one point someone cuts off an arm! He might think that’s cool, though!

  3. Daniel loves to read and we’re reading Harry Potter together too. We love it. They do get darker (starting around book 4- where there is an arm chopped off), but they are such good books! It is fun to share things like that with your kiddos!
