Welcome to Yuppyville

Arg…I’m a pirate, originally uploaded by Mamameg.

This picture of Connor cracks me up! He reminds me of a pirate. This is Connor in full jet-engine-watching mode. We are lucky enough to live right next to an air field. I think that astronauts do their training there, and also the Coast Guard. We get a lot of air traffic. Not an obnoxious amount, but enough to keep Connor happy.

Anyway, this picture has nothing to do with the rest of the post. I just thought it was pretty funny. Oh, and I also wanted to put out there that I have set up a Flickr account where I upload lots of pictures. If you ever feel the need to see more of Connor and Logan, as if I don’t post enough of them on here, check it out here

Okay, back to the subject…Welcome to Yuppyville. It’s offical. We are yuppies. I stay at home, drive a minivan, go to a playgroup, and just participated in the madness called preschool registration. For the past month, I have been researching preschools for the fall, and discussing it with the girls in playgroup. It is seriously hardcore! It’s hard to get the kids in some of these places! I decided the most important thing behind quality and affordability is a program that runs for 5 hours. A lot of them only go from 8:30-11:30. I found 3 that run from 9:00-2:00. One of them has a lottery system to get in and is pretty expensive. One filled up before even offering public registration (meaning current students and church members filled the classes). The third one is where I decided I wanted Connor to go. Three of the other kids from playgroup also decided to go there. Registration is today. Kathy (my sister-in-law) calls me yesterday. “Megan, we need to get there really early. There are only 6 spots left for 3 year olds.” Registration is supposed to start at 9:00 and I should really be there around 8:00 to make sure we get a spot. We arrived at 8:30, after a minor car scare-my yuppy minivan would not start this morning. I really thought that we were going to be too late, but we made it in just barely. The girl that walked in right after us filled the last spot. I feel bad for the people who arrived to register at 9:15 and didn’t get in. That’s probably when I would have gone if Kathy hadn’t called and warned me! It’s just crazy! And the craziest part is, I was right there in the mix of the crazy mom’s who want their kid in the certain school. Yuppyville…I going to have to get used to this!

  1. Get used to it RM…A few months ago at Kenzie’s pre-k…they had a Christmas party – as most schools do…well, about 5 of the moms got together and planned everything and did all of these activities so there were about 4 of us who showed up and were completely left out of the festivities. I was so pissed off. Even though I dont have time for that kind of thing, I would have at least liked the opportunity to turn it down! Anyway – just thought I would vent about preschool for a minute.

  2. Welcome. We live in yuppyville too!! Sometimes fun, sometimes not so much!! I’m so glad Connor gets to go to a good school. Yeah for you for being there in time!

  3. Noooooooooo! Sell the van and house and move to a cabin in th woods. I mean, it worked for Bode, I am sure it could work for CJ and Logan.

  4. Maggie-It’s a preschool at a Methodist church, and the 3 year olds meet 2 days per week.

I tried to get Connor into a Mother’s day out program when we moved here, and all of the places I called were full. I don’t know if it’s the area or what, but it’s hard to get into some of these places!
